Two sizes: 34mm mainstream Date and 26mm ladies' (e.g., 6917). 1500-series (1503, 15053) predate quickset; 15000-series on (15203, 15505) added quickset in 1977 — a real usability upgrade. Metal sets price sharply: steel low, two-tone Rolesor (15053, 15203) a premium, solid yellow gold (15505) near the ceiling. Prioritize original, unpolished cases, clean dials, and matching-serial bracelets. Sigma- and tropical-dial examples pull specialist premiums.
Early 1500/1501 (1960s–70s) are non-quickset; the 15000 series (1977) brought quickset and refined cases; the line was quietly retired c.2001–2003 as Rolex consolidated around the Datejust.
